Parkinson Study Group

The NYU Parkinson Center participates in a multicenter genetic study promoted by the Parkinson Study Group, a consortium of academic centers collaborating in multicenter trials on Parkinson’s disease.

Current Studies

Progeni Study

  • The study is ongoing by nine and aims at investigating the role of known genes in familial and sporadic Parkinson’s disease.
  • It also intends to identify additional novel genetic loci contributing to Parkinson’s disease susceptibility in multiplex families and to characterize the role of these genes in the sporadic form of the disease.
  • This knowledge will provide important insight regarding the etiology, pathogenesis and diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease and will provide hope for future therapies that might prevent, alleviate or ameliorate the symptoms of this disease.
